The Balcony by gyaban The Balcony by gyaban
For this photo, I decided to reproduce a surrealistic shot originally created by the french photographer Philippe Ramette.

This was quite EPIC to shoot.
- First I had to buy the wood and build the structure.
- Then, I traveled a first time to a lake a few kilometers away from my house, and measured the depth of the water at various place, in order to build the feet of the structure with appropriate lengths.
- After that, I cut the feet at home, and transported everything back to the lake. Believe me, this thing is heavy! My wife and I had a hard time installing it.
- Shoot!

Thank you so much for the DD! Unbelievable! Also, thank you for all the great comments and favs, they are all VERY appreciated :-)

as unbelievable as this is, the ripples in the water DO give away that this is a real shot, as does the jet smoke. Most of the time imperfections such as these are edited out.

Not really talking to anyone in paticular, just trying to save some time with the "OMG is this real"? comments ^^;

The only it could be better is if you used a real balcony railing. Although it probably would have been much harder to accomplish lol

AMAZING!

Did you fall in a couple of times, I see drops of water dripping from your clothes and I was wondering if that was for the shot or not

Thank you :-)
I did not fall in, but I had to walk into the water to reach the structure, hence the wet pants and lack of shoes ;)

congrats on the DD! :)

I had to think of these lines when I saw it: "ferde a balkon - a szálloda-ajtón / légbe kilépik az ember az égig" --> it's a part of a Hungarian children's poem, and it says something like this: "the balcony is crooked - from the hotel-door | the man steps out to the sky" :)
it is said that the author if this (Domokos Szilágyi) wrote his own death into this... he died in a similar way.

I just sang a choir+orchestra piece yesterday in a giant choir where this particular verse was included too :) now I can't get it out of my head when I look at your picture...

(I went and looked up the original and was even more impressed!)
Did you build the structure by eye, or scale it up somehow?
