Eve by gyaban Eve by gyaban

As usual, no stock, all my own photos and processing.

While some ideas or photo concepts reach my mind quite naturally, I must confess that this one was hard to come up with. Speaking about the origins of life in a metaphorical way is definitely a challenge, since people can obviously have very different interpretations of the subject. This is why I choose to combine several concepts together: Eve and the forbidden fruit, a broken egg, plants, life, death. While I am not myself a religious man, so many incredible pieces of art have religion as an inspiration: I would be a fool to ignore that fact. So I decided to follow the steps of many famous artists in History, modestly and respectfully, since my goal was not to be provocative in any way. I must say I am very proud of the result, and I hope some will like this combination of classicism and modernism.

Regarding the making of the image, my dear wife was once again wonderful. Not only did she accept to pose, but she also had great ideas to help with the composition (particularly the plant shape) and colors: I would never had reached this result without her. Besides the main photo, I also took shots of a broken egg shell (I used it combined with her body), plants, leaves. The hair is also my wife’s, although it has been shot separately, and recolored.

With this image, I believe I am getting closer to what I truly want to express through my work, style-wise and meaning-wise. I am of course aware that some could hate it for several reasons, but I feel the need to keep trying new things and walking forward on the creation path.

Though Eve is broken, she seems to be at peace with God as if it were her known destiny, much as I would imagine Christ on the cross. Incredible light and contrast definition. I love the flow, as my eyes circle around the picture and always draw back to the center, yet I cannot help but wonder what she is gazing upon. It is open to one's imagination and keeps me wanting more. I believe you achieved what you were after and look forward to seeing more like this.

It's one of the best works I ever seen here on dA. It's not only the idea, because eve themes are like sand on the beach. Also the elements you used like the plant and the apple. But it's this amazing way you make it. The way you let her body looks like a broken puppet in this very high level of skill, the beauty of her body's skin, the way you let the plant crow out of her and covered her like at old Eve and Adam pictures (thinking at Dürer), her beautiful hair and the bed of death leaves. Also the color schemata are so nice done! The contrast of skin and brown and green plants. The contrast of body color and grey leaves on the ground and also the contrast of red apple and blue background. Featured your amazing work here: [link]

As a personal taste I would have keep some texture on the skin, perhaps even something more like an egg, but the effect would have been probably different than the result you want ;)

Now this is not only art; but the expression of human integration into the ever evolving and recurring creation story of the universe at its finest. The portrait stands resolutely on its own; to read the collaborative creative process of the artistry where photographer and model, husband and wife, woman and man worked together so cooperatively and intimately speaks of the creation tale in the theme being lived in real life by those expressing it. i for one find that supremely executed art like this, created as it has been done, is in a sense a spiritual expression itself. Perhaps religion and artistic expression were born and raised together in those first awe inspiring prehistoric paintings and artifacts that spellbind us to this day, spellbind the same way this magnificent nod to divinity and history does.

Thank you so much for your wonderful words. I am very glad you understood so well our motivations and goal. I agree with you, art is intricately linked to religion, as it also requires a form of faith and dedication. Thank you again, very happy you liked this result.
